Subiaco Restoration Invests in Stirling Machinery’s Integrated ProConnect System

Stirling Machinery is pleased to announce that Subiaco Restoration has expanded its production capabilities with the purchase of a new machinery package designed to streamline workflow, reduce manual dependency, and strengthen accuracy across complex architectural profiles.

Subiaco Restoration is known not just for high‑volume output, but for its specialist work in restoration and intricate architectural profiles. This level of craftsmanship comes with unique production challenges — challenges directly addressed by their new Stirling Machinery investment.

The Production Challenges Solved

Subiaco Restoration’s new machinery package targets several long‑standing industry pain points:

The “Skill Gap” Dependency

Historically, running a moulder required a highly skilled operator who could “feel” the setup. With the ProConnect system (E260‑6 Moulder) and NC Control, that intelligence is moved into the software. The ProConnect system links the Office, Tool Room and Machine, allowing full transparency of production and data management across the entire factory. This means Subiaco is no longer vulnerable to the industry‑wide shortage of master machinists.

Setup Bottlenecks

Traditional tool rooms often become the “waiting room” of a factory. By automating template making with the TM‑300 and grinding with the C320P, they eliminate the manual guesswork that slows the transition from a drawing to a finished product. The ProConnect measuring stand further streamlines this by providing fast, accurate X and Y knife measurements using non‑contact video technology, ensuring every tool is correctly set before it reaches the machine.

The “First Board” Waste

In many shops, the first few meters of expensive timber are wasted while the operator “dials in” the machine. This setup removes that trial‑and‑error phase entirely.

Why Stirling Machinery?

While there are many machinery providers, Subiaco Restoration’s decision reflects the value of Stirling’s system integration and proven reliability.

The 10‑Year Test

Subiaco has relied on a Stirling TM‑300 for over a decade. Their decision to stay within the same platform is a powerful endorsement — a clear case of “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it; just upgrade it.”

The “Single Source” Solution

Stirling provides the entire Digital Thread — from the tool room (measuring and grinding) to the production floor (moulding and conveying). Having one partner responsible for communication between the measuring stand and the moulder significantly reduces the risk of software “handshake” issues.

Australian Context

Stirling understands local timber species and the specific demands of the Australian architectural market, which often requires shorter, more diverse runs rather than continuous mass production.

For owner Nick Stokes, the decision came down to more than just equipment. “With Stirling, it was always about making our business better with technology, not just selling a machine.” – Nick Stokes, Director, Subiaco Restorations

Workflow Transformation: Before vs. After

The most compelling part of Subiaco Restoration’s investment is the shift in daily operations.

FeatureThe “Old” WayThe Stirling Way
Profile AccuracyManual measurements and physical “test fits.”Digital DXF transfer from office to machine.
ManpowerTwo people: one to load, one to “tail out.”One operator via the Joutech Return Conveyor.
Data ManagementPhysical notebooks or operator “memory.”A centralised Digital Tool Library.

By integrating the ProConnect system, Subiaco Restoration is building a streamlined, digitally connected workflow that supports the precision their work demands. They are no longer just cutting timber; they are running a precision‑engineered digital workflow where the first board is as perfect as the thousandth.

Stirling Machinery looks forward to supporting Subiaco Restoration as they continue to strengthen their production capabilities and deliver high‑quality architectural profiles to the Australian market.

Planer Sander

“Stirling Machinery’s Planer Sander replaced the two existing sanders we had onsite. Finishing tabletops, a process that originally took two to three hours across two machines, has now been reduced to a matter of minutes in a one-pass finish. The team took the time to understand my operation, how it is run,and what we were looking for in terms of increased capacity and timber finish, and came back with a tailored solution that ticked all of the boxes. As a furniture maker of 35 years, I have been very impressed by the level of service, support and results Stirling has provided. From adding one machine, we have gained time, quality, space, output and efficiency and I couldn’t be happier.”
